Keep Burning

Camping out the last few weeks and having to start and maintain our camp fires every night made me realize that life, love, relationships, careers, education, friendships, passions, hobbies are very much like a campfire.

It takes a fair amount of preparation to set a campfire up for success. The basic principle is that each piece of material must provide enough heat to ignite the next, from the small match in the beginning all the way to the big log that burns all night. And that means in the beginning, before you even think about lighting the fire, everything needs to be there. Because while the fire is young you can’t go off to find more wood and leave it all by itself.

You’ve got to be prepared, because restarting a fire that’s gone out is a lot harder than getting it lit the first time around. That’s because there’s always good stuff laying around at first. If you burn all those things up without being ready and prepared, you’ve got to go further the next time to get them...Here is where some will just let the fire go out and are left with nothing but ashes... Others will go out there into the unknown to find more wood, twigs, leaves, lighter fluid even a little bit of hair spray...they will do whatever it takes just to keep that fire going. Be that person. Don't give up on your fire.
